CluelyRS Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 20, 2026
CluelyRS ("the app") is a free, open-source desktop application for Windows and macOS, developed by Jay Martinez ("the developer"). This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, where it is stored, and the choices you have.
In short: CluelyRS runs on your computer. There is no CluelyRS server and no CluelyRS account. The developer does not collect, receive, store, sell or share any of your data. Data only leaves your computer when you send it to a service you have chosen, as described below.
1. Data the app accesses
- Audio from your microphone and your computer's sound output, while Live mode is on.
- Transcripts created from that audio.
- Screenshots of your screen, only when you ask a question with "Screenshot on send" turned on.
- Files you attach to a question or add to a mode.
- Google Calendar data, only if you choose to sign in with Google (see section 4).
- Settings, API keys and sign-in tokens you enter in the app.
2. How the data is used
The data is used only to provide the app's features to you: transcribing your conversations, answering your questions, writing meeting notes and follow-up emails, searching your past sessions, and reminding you of upcoming meetings. It is not used for advertising, profiling, analytics or to train AI models by the developer.
3. Where data goes
CluelyRS sends data only to services you choose:
- Your AI model provider (for example OpenAI/ChatGPT, Anthropic/Claude, or another provider you configure) receives your question, the recent transcript, attached files, a summary of earlier parts of the conversation and, if enabled, a screenshot, to generate answers and notes. That provider's privacy policy applies to what it receives.
- Deepgram, only if you select it as the speech provider, receives your audio for transcription. By default, transcription happens on your computer and no audio leaves it.
- Google Calendar, only if you connect it (section 4).
- Calendar addresses you paste (for example Outlook or iCloud) are read from that address only.
- Hugging Face is contacted once to download the speech-recognition model. No personal data is sent.
- GitHub is contacted to check for new versions, if update checks are on. No personal data is sent.
The app contains no analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or advertising.
4. Google user data
Connecting Google Calendar is optional. If you sign in with Google:
- Access requested: read-only access to your calendars (
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.readonly). The app never creates, edits or deletes events. - Data accessed: the list of your calendars (names and colors) and, for the calendars you select, upcoming events: title, start and end time, time zone, attendees' names and email addresses, and meeting links. Your primary calendar's address is shown as the connected account.
- How it is used: to let you choose calendars, show upcoming meetings, remind you before they start, name a session after the meeting you start it from, and, if you choose, use meeting titles and attendee names to improve transcription of names. This is done for you only, inside the app.
- Storage: event data is kept in the app's memory and in the session files on your computer only. Your Google sign-in token is stored in Windows Credential Manager or the macOS Keychain. Nothing is stored on any server operated by the developer.
- Sharing: Google user data is not sold and is not shared with or transferred to anyone, except that when you start a session from a meeting, that meeting's title (and attendee names, if you use them as vocabulary) become part of that session and can be included in what the app sends to the AI or speech provider you chose for that session, as part of providing the feature you requested. No person, including the developer, reads your Google data.
- Retention and deletion: upcoming-event data is refreshed and discarded as events pass. Sessions you saved are deleted automatically after the period you choose in Settings, or when you delete them. Signing out in Settings › Calendar revokes the app's access at Google and deletes the token from your computer. You can also revoke access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
CluelyRS's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
5. Storage and security on your computer
Sessions (transcripts, answers, notes, screenshots and attachments) are saved in a folder on your computer and are deleted after the retention period you choose (7 days, 30 days, or never), or whenever you delete them. Settings are stored in a local file. API keys and tokens are stored in your operating system's secure credential store. You can turn off saving sessions and screenshots in Settings.
6. Your choices
- Turn off microphone or desktop audio, screenshots, or session saving in Settings.
- Delete any saved session, or all of them, at any time.
- Disconnect Google Calendar in Settings or at your Google account's permissions page.
- Uninstalling the app removes it; saved sessions can be deleted from the app or its data folder.
7. Children
CluelyRS is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
8. Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version is published on this page with a new effective date.
